2008 Segundo: Dave Morby

My name is Dave Morby. I will be your Segundo for the 2008 Fort Bridger Rendezvous. I am from Liberty Utah and have lived there for 20 years.
My Favorite time of year is September. For two reasons: One because things cool down and the other Fort Bridger Rendezvous. My first Bridger was 30 years ago. I have been coming ever since (two years in spirit). My sweetheart has accompanied me for 24 of those years. My four kids love it too. They have all came to Bridger before they could sit up. What a great way to teach family about the old ways. Now it?s more of a life style rather than a hobby.
We have loved every one of them come rain, snow or shine. As Segundo, I will work with the Booshway Dale Carpenter and the board to make the 2008 Rendezvous one of the best. We have been working very hard and have made a lot of great plans for this years Rendezvous we would also welcome any suggestions you may have that would better any future Rendezvous.

2008 Bourgeois: Dale Carpenter

My name is Dale Carpenter, Bourgeois for the 2008 Fort Bridger Rendezvous. It is an honor to hold a position like this for such a great event. I and my family have participated in the rendezvous for twenty five years give or take a couple. My family has grown up with the rendezvous and it is a highlight activity of the year. I am from Riverton Utah, and have been for over 40 years. It is my desire to have the Fort Bridger Rendezvous represent as nearly as possible the rendezvous of the fur trade period of the Rocky Mountains.
What a great opportunity it is participate in an activity in which you can take a step back in time and get a feel for the way some of our ancestors might have lived. As we have seen the harsh winter we have had this year, imagine yourself alone walking the mountains of the west trapping animals for furs to sell at rendezvous next summer. As it sit in my warm house in front of my fireplace I sometimes close my eyes and let my mind take me back to the early 1800's and try to imagine myself following along with some of the mountain men. What a hard life this must have been, and the determination these men had to do this year after year. I can imagine the excitement there must have been getting all of your gear and furs together and heading to rendezvous. This is what we would like each participant, no matter who you are or where you are from, to feel a part of. Living this life for just a short period of time each year is a very special experience for me. There is nothing to match an exciting day on Traders Row, time on the shooting range or a great meal from a Dutch oven. At the end of the day, to look around at the soft glow of lanterns or candles in tents or teepees just puts you in a different world. As night comes and I lay in my teepee looking out the opening at the top, watching the stars go by, I can understand some of the peace and excleration that must have kept the mountain men doing what they did in spite of the hardships and danger.
As each of us participates in rendezvous, the hardest thing we have to do is get up in the morning and get our clothes on. Along with all the fun and friendship, I want to see this great event be an educational opportunity for all of those that come. I would like to invite all who would be interested in taking a step back in history to come join as on Labor Day weekend, August 29th through September 1st, 2008.

Keep your powder dry.
