Bourgeois Susie Bridge

Greetings from Wyoming,

Each year we as a board are asked to take a few minutes and introduce ourselves to all of you. I am the mother of 6 children, all grown now and making me crazy. I am very proud of all of my children and the fact that we are a blended family gives flavor to our lives.

I was born in Florida, the granddaughter to two Echota Cherokee grandmothers. I have loved this area and came here as a young girl moving with the oil field. I met my husband in Utah while we were both going to school. He is originally from Lyman Wyoming, Bridger Valley where this great Rendezvous has been for over 40 years.

My first time to attend this Rendezvous was in the early 80’s and I have loved it ever since. We began bringing our children each year for many reasons. We have enjoyed all the speakers, entertainers, merchants and people. The Indian dancers were and still are my family’s favorite thing. We have not missed one Fort Bridger Rendezvous in over 25 years to say I am hooked is an understatement.

After many years of enjoying and participating in the many events I realized that it was time to volunteer my time and service so that this great and amazing experience may continue. Now having said this I by no means am indicating that one person runs this event. This Rendezvous is the second largest event on state grounds in the great state of Wyoming. This event literally takes over 700 hours from more than 12 boardmembers. This does not include all the hours given lovingly and faithfully by the many many volunteers. I am so very proud to work side by side with all of them. I am only one of many that give and give of themselves and their personal time on a daily basis throughout the year so that this event can remain for generations to come.

This year I have the privilege and honor to serve side by side with my Segundo Shalayne Hunziker. I realize that this is the first time in the history of the Fort Bridger Rendezvous that there has been a woman Bourgeois and Segundo but I will tell you this Neither of us takes this lightly. This is not about gender or accolades this is about preserving a time in history and passing it onto our children. I believe that in this day and age, our society needs the past more than ever. My hope and desire is that this year will be full of wonderful, familiar fun and new and up building experiences. May we all learn more about our past so that we may share it with the children of the future.

I want to thank you for taking a moment to read this letter from me. As I write this note to you I am humbled at how blessed my life truly is.

I am so excited to share this time with all of you

Susan Bridge

Segundo Shalayne Hunziker

Hello my name is Shalayne Hunziker
I am very excited to be your 2014 Segundo.
And I’m even more excited to work with our amazing Booshway “Susan Bridge” and our great FBRA board.
Let me tell you a little about myself…. I have been going to rendezvous my whole life. I have been to many rendezvous in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho.  But my favorite rendezvous is and always has been Fort Bridger.   As a little girl I always looked forward to Labor Day weekend. I knew I would get to spend the weekend at Fort Bridger with my family and friends. It was always exciting to see all the traders and all the different people that attended the event. I loved to go watch my dad participate in the shooting events. I would sit at the shooting range all day watching. I also enjoyed watching and participating in the knife and hawk throws. The cannon shoot was another event I didn’t miss. As I got older and my dad got more involved with the FBRA I got to see all of the other events and contests that went on at the rendezvous. WOW how amazing!! Who knew there were so many events that went on? That’s when I knew I wanted to be a part of helping to make this rendezvous happen. While my dad was booshway I got to help him with the shooting program and followed him around like a puppy dog. I’m sure he got sick of me following him, but I was watching the things he did, he would talk to the traders to see how they were doing, ask tourist what they thought about the rendezvous.  He would go to every contest and event to see if everyone was having a good time.  And my favorite, giving little kids a $1 trader buck just to see their eyes light up cause the booshway had given them a dollar that they got to spend. That’s what made me know I wanted to be a part of the board that makes this all happen.

I am blessed to have a great family that supports me. My son Dylan has been attending Fort Bridger ever since he was 3 months old and he has never missed a year.  Now that he is 16 and growing up he still looks forward to going every year.   I have a very supportive husband Paul; we have been married for 4 years, and a great step son Mataeo. As soon as Bridger is over, it’s time to get home and ready to go hunting. I love to hunt!! My most favorite hunt has got to be my bear hunts!  Every hunt is always amazing and completely unforgettable. But any hunt with my family is always fun and lots of great memories.

I have been on the board for 3 years now. It has been so amazing to see what it takes to put this huge event on. With all the time it takes to plan and prepare for this great rendezvous. It has been a lot of hard work, but so worth it!!  I know we have a lot of hard work in the months to come to get the rendezvous ready, But I am looking forward to helping the board put on another great rendezvous! I am so grateful for all of you that help us as a board make this “magic” happen. We couldn’t do any of it with out ALL of you!

Your 2014 Segundo
